My First Spray Tanning Experience

Posted: Aug 20, 2010 |Comments: 1 |

I have very pale and fair skin and have always been looking for a way to get a great tan.  It was always embarrassing for me to go swimming or to the beach and to be so white compared to everyone else.  Another issue that I had was that my skin was so fair that I would get sunburns so easily.  In addition to these being painful and itchy, it was even more embarrassing to be red than it was to be white.  I wanted to get a great tan that looked good without risking a painful and embarrassing sunburn.
A few years ago my boyfriend proposed to me and we decided to get married in the summertime.  I obviously wanted to get a good tan for the wedding because it looks great.  I was afraid that I wouldn't stand out in contrast to my white wedding dress.  I purchased an "all you can tan" pass to a local tanning salon.  Every time I went, I had this overwhelming feeling of guilt.
When I was 12 years old, my mother was diagnosed with melanoma.  Hers was a fairly serious case and the doctor even gave her a time frame that she was expected to live.  I think that I inherited my fair skin from her.  She ended up beating the odds and going into remission.  Every time I went to the salon, I thought of my mom and what she would say to me if she knew where I was going.
I continued to go to the salon up until the wedding day.  I have to admit that my tan did look pretty good that day.  But along with the good tone that I had gained, I also accumulated a strong sense of guilt and vowed that I would never again visit a tanning bed.  I was going to be starting a family of my own and didn't want them to go through what I had to go through when I was young.
A few months after we got married, my husband and I visited his cousin and her husband who live in Arizona.  His cousin also has fair skin.  Living in Arizona, she is obviously prone to sunburn as well.  When we got there, I noticed that she had a great tan.  She explained to me how she had purchased her own personal spray tanning system.  She showed it to me and even offered to give me a spay tan.  She had some practice spraying herself and her husband.  She was able to apply the solution very evenly.  The tan looked great and lasted for about a week.
Since then, I have purchased my own spray tanning system and solution.  I have enjoyed getting the tan that I have always wanted without any damaging effects.  No I can enjoy a nice tan any time I want to (summer or winter) without any of the harmful side effects like skin cancer or guilt.

I can totally relate to this article. I used to tan outside, then in a tanning bed. After I realized how dangerous that behaviour was, I switched to spray tanning. I am one of those people that has to have a tan. I love the way my skin looks with a little color. I don't want to look unnatural or orange. I had a friend of mine about 3 years ago direct me to the salon she goes to. I had read so many horror stories I was petrified at first, but I am glad I did it because I loved it!

This past year I finally invested in my own equipment, I purchased a small start up kit from the solution provider I always use, EnvyTan. The kit was a great price and the results...? The same I get in the salon! I now spray tan all my friends and family and I am getting other people in my neighborhood asking if I can give them a spray tan too! Anyway, thanks for writing this article, it really hit home.
