The pleura is made up of two layers that offer assistance and protection for the lungs and chest cavity; Pleural mesothelioma is the most common type of mesothelioma cancer.

What is Pleura?

The pleura is made up of two layers that offer assistance and protection for the lungs and chest cavity. The outside layer, or the parietal layer, lines the whole chest cavity and the diaphragm. The inside layer, or visceral layer, protects the lungs.

Pleural Mesothelioma

Pleural mesothelioma is the most common type of mesothelioma cancer,an infrequent cancer that grows in the mesothelial cells that comprise the mesothelium, a membrane layer that lines most of the body's internal organs as well as cavities. Regarding pleural mesothelioma cancer, the cancer grows in the lining of the lungs, known as the pleura or pleural membrane. Pleural mesothelioma generally grows in a single layer, but tend to metastasize, or distribute, towards the other layer. Just like most of mesothelioma cancer cancers, pleural mesothelioma is due to asbestos fiber exposure and grows when the toxic asbestos grow to be trapped in the areas involving the mesothelial cells.

Pleural Mesothelioma Symptoms

As soon as trapped in the body, asbestos fiber result in malignant cells to split abnormally, leading to the thickening of the pleural membrane layer and mesothelial cells, producing build-up of fluid (known as pleural effusion). The fluid starts to set stress on the lung area and the respiratory system generally, stopping regular inhaling and exhaling. Symptoms of pleural mesothelioma tend to be mostly brought on by these innovations and may even range from the following:

·      Persistent dry or raspy cough

·      Coughing up blood

·      Difficulty in swallowing

·      Shortness of breath that happens even if resting

·      Persistent pain in the chest or rib area, or painful breathing

·      Development of lumps under the skin on the chest

·      Night sweats or fever

·      Unexplained weight loss

·      Fatigue
