Why Regular Reexamination After Cancer is Cured?

For most diseases, you have not to see a doctor any more when you have been cured. But cancer is an exception. When a patient discharged from hospital, he was always benn told to have a regular reexamination. Why?

Cancer treatment results in clinical divided into four types, were cured, improved, stable, and deterioration. Cure generally refers to complete eradication of cancer cells through surgery, radiotherapy or chemotherapy when the cancer is at an early or mid-term. However, the most important thing to test the treatment of a cancer is time, that is five-year survival rate or ten-year survival rate usually mentioned in medicine. The incidence of cancer is slow, and it is very difficult for people to find out, the development of cancer is also covert, only to a certain stage, abundant cancer cells assemble and take shape, the cancer may be discovered via CT or B-mode ultrasonography.

After the clinical treatment, if there are residual cancer cells, it takes a period of time to find out the recurrence of a mass transfer. That's one of the reasons why cancer patients should have a regular reexamination after being cured. In addition, many cancer recurrence can be cured if found in time, which means the necessity of regular reexamination. Patients should understand some symptoms and signs of cancer metastasis and recurrence before discharged from hospital, so they can come to reexamine as soon as possible when these situations arise. Cancer treatment such as radiotherapy and chemotherapy have certain side effects, including the near- and long-term harm, some symptoms can be reduced through the reexamination and treatment. Additionally post-operative complications may occur, and can be found while reexamining, and deal with in time to promote rehabilitation.
