Yellow-green Fruits and Vegetables Can Help Prevent Lung Cancer

The incidence of lung cancer relates with people's diet. Eat carotene-rich yellow or green fruits and vegetables rich in carotene, can contribute to the prevention of lung cancer.

Investigation showed that people who intake less vitamin A or carotene daily have higher rate of lung cancer after 10 years. Vitamin A can maintain the integrity of the nucleus, and ensure normal epithelial tissue metabolism and accelerate the nuclear DNA repair, also can block the process of cancer cells and inhibit cancer. Long-term lack of vitamin A, can cause squamous metaplasia of respiratory epithelium, then lead to lung cancer.

Vitamin A mainly exists in animal tissues. There is abundant vitamin A in egg yolks, milks, butters, fish liver oils, animal livers, ect. However, we should be careful not to over-consumption for these foods are high in cholesterol and high-calorie. Tomatoes, sweet potatoes, carrots, pumpkins, oranges, mangos, spinaches, green peppers, etc are also rich in carotene which can be converted into vitamin A in the body. We can eat these vegetables and fruits, which is not only beneficial to the prevention of lung cancer, but also has a certain preventive effect against hypertension, diabetes, coronary heart diseases and other chronic diseases.

Studies have shown that trace element selenium can enhance immunity, inadequate intake of selenium will also increase the risk of lung cancer. Shrimp, crab, lean meat, eggs, mushrooms, sesame seeds and other foods contain higher levels of selenium, appropriate intake of these foods do good for our health.

For the prevention of lung cancer, the primary emphasis is to stay away from cigarettes, not to smoke, and avoid passive smoking. Secondly, we should do a good job protection to reduce occupational hazards in toxic and harmful environments. Additionally we should avoid radiation and indoor decoration pollutions.
