Many people are afraid of the thought of being called a gambler. They are fearful of the stigma that almost certainly will eternally hound them. Average people have different reasons as to why they gamble. Some bet to forget their problems, others for fun, or to wile away their time. It is unfortunate that only a minor percent of those who gamble gives a bad reputation to everyone else. It is not hard to conceive that gambling can be so destructive. Gambling profits have provided much needed financial support of legitimate charities. And many jackpot winners are generous about charity.

Skeptics should be aware of studies which have found that seniors who gamble have fewer health issues such as alcoholism and depression. And even seniors who gamble go bankrupt less frequently than the general population. Properly done, gambling is therapeutic as it exercises the mind and keeps the recreationalplayer alert.

Of course, these studies which find senior gamblers healthier than their non-gambling counterparts might have it rhe wrong way around. Are they healthier because they are healthy enough to begin to gamble or does gambling increase their health? It could be that the healthy gamble, not that gambling makes people healthy. More studies need to be done on this complicated issue.

Finally it is not the act of gambling itself that makes it beneficial or a bad thing to the individual. It is the decision whether gambling will rule him or her, whether this will be a dangerous habit or whether he or she can walk away and be entertained another day.

Gambling isfor entertainment, as it ought to be. Others just cannot handle any form of loss. These souls always keep right on hoping the next marker will be the one to bring back all that has been lost. And these types of playerscomprise the minority of the the number of people who gamble.

Imagine the other 75 percent who gamble responsibly. These people find gambling just as entertainment. They are never blinded by the illusion that hitting a jackpot once is the keyto financial happiness.
