A Career As a Solicitor

Posted: Feb 01, 2012 |Comments: 0 |

Is school age the right time to be asking children about something that will impact and effect them for the rest of their lives?

Surprisingly, we expect our children to know the answer to this at a very early age.
It is usually around the time of puberty and the later years when our children are goinig through their teenage angst that we expect them to know what they want to be doing for the rest of their life! Sometimes, you don't know what the right career will be for you until you get to know a bit more about yourself.

As a teenager at school, trying to decide whether you wanted to become a solicitor when you were older or a fitness instructor might not have been  on your radar back then.

Sometimes, teenagers just do not know what type of career they should  go into and it is not until much later, possible when they are students at  university that many youngsters get a strong vocation to enter a  particular career.

If you wanted to become a doctor, dentist or vet - you'll need to know  this well before you go to university since you need to take a degree that  has a huge element of science in it.

However, when it comes to becoming a solicitor, you don't even have to  take a law degree whilst you are at university (although of course, this  would help).

Many people who have non-law degrees can still go on to become  solicitors.

All that is required is that they a postgraduate diploma in law or the CPE  (whicih is the Common Professional Examination) and then they will need to do a legal practice course and then undertake a two year solicitor training contract with a law firm.

At the end of this, they become a fully qualified solicitor.

So you see, even if you didn't know back when you were sixteen or even  eighteen and you might have taken completely unrelated GCSEs or A  Levels, or even done a non-law related degree, if you find you have a  strong desire to join the law profession as a solicitor, it is never too late.
