Banishing Job Blues

One company poster reads: “It’s a mistake to stop looking for work as soon as you’ve landed a job.”  Since the economic slowdown, gloomy news regarding mass layoffs and widespread downsizing has scared many employees.  People are just taking any jobs they can get.  The number of underemployed also increased.  Many are getting desperate and just sign up for jobs that do not pose any challenge or motivation for them—as long as there is a salary to expect at the end of the month and some added benefits such as an occasional cash bonus or payday loans.  Most of these employees think that they have dead-end jobs.  However, what if it is not the job that poses the problem?  What if the biggest block to career advancement is the employees themselves?

Some career experts think that, more often than not, job fulfillment starts with having the right mindset.  Even though they have been employed for months, for years even, some employees admittedly feel a nagging dissatisfaction with their job, which in turn, causes them to lose motivation in doing their work responsibilities.  A few also express their apprehension that there seems to be nowhere else to go in terms of career advancement, or the next level in the company hierarchy, no matter how competent and able they are with their respective jobs.  These kinds of employees feel that they have landed on dead-end jobs and that their careers are at a standstill.  In this situation, employees must have a change of mind and cultivate a more positive attitude towards their work.  According to career experts, if frustration has replaced motivation in the workplace, but a switch of careers is not possible, then it is best to have a change in viewpoint.  Instead of thinking that there is nowhere to go, employees should think that a promotion does not entirely tell my worth as a worker.

Another thing to do to shed those career blues is to stay focused on one’s goals.  People should think of ways they could get closer to their goals.  Sometimes, the way to achieve personal goals is to make sacrifices.  If a person wants to put up a home-based business, he or she should take courses on entrepreneurship or purchase books and study.  They need to invest time and money, like getting an instant payday loan to pay for a skills seminar fee or buy equipment for a business.  The important thing is to get ahead of one’s self even when a career is at a standstill and keep on moving and achieving.
