Benefits Of Attending Grossmont College

Grossmont College is a very small community college that serves the greater San Diego region. The college population is very diverse due to its closeness to Mexico. Many of the students of the college speak English as a second language. There are also many people attending the college who are not in the demographic of many community colleges.

The commitment of the college administration to provide a quality education to any person seeking it has created a unique dynamic in this college. Programs have been designed specifically to assist and encourage students who may have difficulty in any other college environment. Coursework is designed so that students can be tutored during class and many of the classes have an interpreter in the classroom for the students.

Students are provided with a diverse and challenging educational environment. Their coursework is designed to provide them with seamless movement to a higher education or to a successful career.

As a non-profit educational facility, Grossmont College supports students through the availability of scholarships, providing needed equipment and supplies, providing top quality educational programs, and ensuring their facilities are always kept up-to-date. Their excellent teaching staff believes that student achievement is their top priority and, therefore, designs instruction by taking learning styles into consideration.

There is a very active student council in the Grossmont College system. Students are encouraged to participate in a student and teacher collaboration which allows for an exchange of ideas before class curricula are established each year. Students may request that courses be added to the curriculum to meet their needs and the administration works very hard to see that the requests are met.

Becoming a responsible and contributing member of society is the goal of any future learning opportunity and Grossmont Community College encourages the free thought and expression of ideas needed in today's society. Students can be found of all ages, ethnic backgrounds, and come from all walks of life. Diversity is embraced in that it is understood that it is through the ability to share with others that strength can be gained in education.

Students who are developing job skills or increasing skill sets are given college credits for participating in various work programs. These programs have been designed to provide the students with an opportunity to enter the workforce and make a knowledgeable decision about whether or not they wish to pursue a four year degree.

The college offers programs that provide both credit and non-credit courses to members of the community. Many individuals with full time jobs can participate and earn the credits to transfer to the university. This is because Grossmont College and University of California San Diego have developed many programs collaboratively that allow students opportunities to earn transfer credits in the community education setting. An individual who is changing careers or must enter the workforce will find that Grossmont College offers programs that are specifically designed to meet their needs. The college has dedicated itself to making sure that the needs of the community, business, industry, and students are met. To this end there have been many programs designed and created at Grossmont College that are not available through any other Community College.
