Do you Choose to Work at Home or at the Office?

A lot of people wish they could work from home. You wake up when you want, you take a break when you want, you can keep your pajamas, smoke non-stop, nobody nags you … it’s a dream! It’s that feeling that pupils have when they go to a contest and they get a few days off from school while the other pupils get bored in school.

Unfortunately, jobs which allow you to work home are not many and don’t have ONLY advantages. You don’t meet too often the situation "flexible schedule, a lot of money, easy work". A home job can give you the freedom that you have always dreamt about, but it can also be an obstacle to your professional development. Weigh carefully the advantages and the disadvantages of this kind of work before choosing for one such alternative.

Advantages:

You can work exactly when you feel like you have the energy and that you can do a great job, even if this thing happens at 2 o’clock at night.

Nobody bothers you with all kind of problems and you don’t have to hear your collegues talk about all kind of nonsense when you want to focus. You have no image expenses. You can work for a whole year in the same clothes without having nobody looking down at you.

You are always rested, because you sleep as much as you like.

You have the time to deal with other things; you can even keep two-three jobs in the same system.

You can work in advance when you want to take a longer holiday.

You can pay more attention to the details in your job.

And, since everything is not pink, there are some disadvantages:

An over flexible program can lead to indolence. When you know you have all the time in the world, you usually find something more interesting to do than work. If you are not a disciplined person, the lack of supervising can make you work when you’re extremely close to the deadline.

You hardly socialize. It is hard to make connections when you have no colleagues and when you spend all your time at home. When you want to change your job, it will be more difficult to learn information about other available positions.

You are not so motivated, because you don’t feel the competition. Small rivalries at the office, considerate petty, have their positive side: they make you wish to want many more professional performances. When you stay home, you have no one to compete with.

The feed-back that you receive for your work is slower, because you hardly have any direct contact with the people you work with.

It’s pretty hard to appreciate what you work. Perhaps you made progress as far as the level of knowledge are concerned but, since you have the same number of projects, the pay check and the appreciation will not always be according to your real value. Many judge from the quantity point of view.

Also, it’s harder to argue your decisions and the communication with your clients/ superiors is more difficult..
