Job Vacancies are Out There – you Just Need to Know how to Find Them

Posted: Dec 02, 2010 |Comments: 0 |

Never underestimate how many job vacancies there really are out there.

Lots of people think that the job market is flat; that there are no job opportunities, but the truth is there are plenty of job vacancies available.  You just need to know how to do a job search for these job vacancies effectively.

There are many channels you can use when looking for a job vacancy.

  • The most obvious; and most easily accessible one is the internet.  Job vacancies are advertised all over the web, where you can look for jobs online.  Whether you are looking for local or international job vacancies, there are many websites and search engines that advertise job vacancies.  You just need to find which ones are relevant to you.  Some websites cater for job vacancies in specific countries or locations, while others cater for job vacancies in specific industries – the choice is yours.
  • You can also visit recruitment agency websites – these usually have their available job vacancies displayed online.  If you work in a very specific industry there may be industry websites you can visit, or if you know of companies you would like to work for, you can also go to the company job pages to see what job vacancies might be available.
  • Job vacancies are also advertised in newspapers and sometimes in magazines.  They're a bit more difficult to search, because you have to read through all the job vacancies to find what's applicable to you, but printed media still carries many job vacancies that you can apply to.
  • Sometimes job vacancies are not advertised.  Sometimes it's more about who you know, so speak to friends and your social networks.  Often if there are job vacancies they know of, they will mention them to you, but only if they know you are trying to find a job.  You need to let people know you are looking for job vacancies.

Finding job vacancies is about being proactive.  You have to go out and look for them.

And beyond that, you need to make sure that your application to job vacancies stands out from the rest.  You need to start getting creative! You need to sell yourself!  Even if you're not in sales, you still need to know how to sell yourself so you stand out as the best possible candidate for the chosen job vacancies that you want to apply to.

  • Your CV needs to demonstrate that you have the skills required for these job vacancies.
  • Your cover letters need to explain why you are the best candidate for these job vacancies.
  • Should you get an interview, you need to make sure you have investigated the prospective job vacancies and the companies at which they are to show that you understand what is required.

Job vacancies are out there – you just have to become an expert on how to find the right one for you!
