Locum tenens who are looking for possible places to work in may often find there are a lot of options, as the nation is currently facing a physician shortage. However, while locums go where their placement takes them, there are some areas that they may enjoy practicing in more than others, due to opening the door to other possibilities or enjoying the surrounding area.

Modern Medicine, which offers news pertaining to workers in the healthcare industry, released a report of the best places in the country to practice medicine, and some lucky locums who land one of these placements may be excited to see what their journey has in store.

One of the areas that may come as a surprise is Alaska, which many individuals may assume is a cold all year round. However, the news provider reports that during the summer months, the state can reach 70 degree temperatures. Additionally, hospitals and medical clinics offer bonuses worth up to $50,000 for physicians that come to the area.

Another area that physician recruiters tell the news provider could be a good placement for locums is Minnesota, as the state is home to the Mayo Health system, which is world renowned. While working at one of these locations could do wonders for one's locum experience, the North Star State has some of the lowest malpractice rates in the U.S.

It also appears as though multiple areas in Texas would be ideal choices for locum tenens looking for assignments. A healthcare staffing company released its own picks for the areas in the country to practice medicine, choosing to limit the list to specific metropolitan areas.

A number of cities in Texas made the list, such as San Antonio, Houston and Huntsville. These areas were chosen due to their well-known facilities, such as the renowned BAMC burn unit in San Antonio, Houston having the largest medical training campus in the world (the METC) and Huntsville Memorial Hospital being singled out as one of the best places to practice medicine by Medical Economics. Additionally, the source reports that the same magazine named the Lone Star State as the best area for doctors.
