Steps Towards Becoming A Licensed Physician Assistant

You have decided to pursue your career as a physician assistant. After gauging you interest and taking into consideration your strengths and weaknesses, you think that this can be your future career. First and foremost, you should start looking for a school that offers accredited PA programs. The degree lasts approximately two years. You can search for colleges of allied health, academic health centers or medical schools. Alternatively, you may conduct a search on the top physician assistant schools. Compare and evaluate each school to know which one most likely suits you. Trust your instinct in identifying your best school.

Upon enrolling in a program, the next step is of course to devote considerable time on your PA study. This phase is paramount importance as your knowledge and skills will be built, thereby forming a foundation for your future practical works. Considering this, you should view your study as a priority. Some of the tips to make the most of your study include exercising discipline and determination, being a well read student and practising good time management.

After much theoretical study and practical trainings, you graduate from the program. The next step is to sit for the Physician Assistant National Certifying Exam (PANCE). This certification examination is required in all states. Before sitting for this examination which is offered by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA), you should ensure that you are well prepared. One tip is to get a study guide for this examination.

After passing this examination, you can now take the state board exams to obtain your physician assistant license. This test differs from state to state. In order to become licensed, you must pass this licensing board examination. One thing to note is that you must pass this test every two years in order to stay licensed.
