Some companies would require temporary staff from time to time. Temporary work for example, may only be able during the Christmas period (within retail), the year end (within accounts firms), seasonal (theme parks and attractions) or as and when required through the year.
Temporary work may lead to permanent positions depending on the company’s policy, as there may be a probation period first before taking the staff on permanently. Or if the person is working exceptionally well, then the position may become permanent. A majority of temporary work can be found within recruitment agencies, here a candidate signs up for temporary work, as soon as one becomes available, the candidate will be assigned to the job for a certain period of time.
Temporary work can be good for people who require work straight away, however the only problem is, that it is a short term assignment, so for example if a temporary worker is contracted to work 3 months, he or she will have by then, settled within the company and met new people, gotten used to the duties but unfortunately would have to leave because it’s only a temporary assignment. However, if the candidate did not enjoy the role within the first place, they only have to work a short period before leaving the job.
Temporary workers are usually paid on an hourly basis, the pay may be weekly or fortnightly depending on the period of the temporary assignment. However, the rate of pay for temporary workers will differ, some may have more because of the skills and experience required, or some will just be the standard rate of pay.
Team support and retail staff are probably the most popular temporary work around the job market, mainly because it is for companies that have busy periods within certain periods of the year, or the business is experiencing high workloads, or members of staff being on annual, sick, paternity or maternity leave. Not all temporary work can be filled quickly, it all depends on what the company requirements are, there will always be a need for temporary work, more or less within all the job sectors, therefore searching and applying for the jobs would not be a problem.

In those days all applications came through the post so straight into the bin went those that weren’t in nice white envelopes. If they we
