What to Do When Deciding on a Career Move

Posted: Aug 31, 2010 |Comments: 0 |

Satisfied workers are, most of the time, equal to productive companies. This is a fact because a person works excellently when he loves what he is doing. Now what happens when employees suddenly get bored with their current status at work? Well, most often they decide on a career move. If you are one those people who is contemplating to move to a different company, you may want to consider giving yourself more time in weighing your options.

If you have a criteria for job satisfaction, list them down on a piece of paper and study them. Such list may include the responsibilities you want to have as an employee, the salary you want to receive every month, or even the boss you want to work for. But don't just settle for these factors. Consider also more important ones like opportunities for promotion and training workshops.

Give points to each criterion you have written on your list. This way you will be able to evaluate which one is most important to you. Compare criteria such as location and compensation. If you want to work near your home, give the location factor the highest point.

Aside from raring your criteria, you must also grade each company you consider as good prospect for you. But how are you going to know which company is better? Well, you do that by studying each company through research. You can go to a company's website and see what they have to offer jobseekers like you.

When you're done evaluating your options, ask yourself which company is more suitable for your ambition. Will this company or that company be a good ground for you to hone your skills and talents? The point here is you consider your long term goals as you choose which company you think is the best for you.

So what's next for you after you are done with your list and rating each company in your options? I say you stay for the meantime and wait what happens. By giving yourself and your current company more time, you will be able to think and decide more clearly than when you just decide out of impulse and regret it later one.
