5 Employment Search Secrets You Need To Know

Practically everybody - maybe even Paris Hilton - will experience the often frustrating search for employment even if it's only once in their lives. If you're a fresh graduate and it's your first time to enter the job market, here's what you should know to get a job as soon as possible.

5 Employment Search Secrets You Need to Know

Know Thyself - It will be extremely difficult to find the most suitable job for you if you don't know exactly what you're looking for. And to know what you're looking for, you need to know who and what you really are first.

Know your interests. What kind of job are you most happy with? Is your college degree directly or even indirectly related to the type of job you desire most?

Make an Impressive Resume - Portfolios speak for models, paintings speak for works, songs represent singers, and resumes are what make or break job applicants like you. Making an impressive resume, however, is more difficult than it seems. Yes, it's short - usually not more than a page or two. And yes, it's just a list of your KSA - knowledge, skills, and attitudes - as well as your work experience (that's just like copying the information you have in an autograph book). But it's how you say things and not what you say that matters.

If, in the end, you realize that resume is just not your forte then by all means hire a professional editor to create one for you. It's money well-spent so don't feel bad about the costs.

Send, Send, Send - Now that you have an impressive resume, it's time to send your resume to as many possible employers. First, look at the classified ads section and send it to the appropriate employers or companies.

Secondly, browse the Internet for other possible employers or companies within the fields or industries you're interested in. Send them your resume as well even if they're not hiring people now. If they see something like in your resume, they'll likely read it all the way through. And if that strengthens their impression of you then they'll probably give you an interview even if they're not looking for anyone at the moment. All you need is a chance!

Thirdly, consider availing the services of a resume distribution company. If you choose to work with a resume distribution company, you'll be able to have your resume sent to scores of firms - some of it you aren't even aware of being a possible candidate maybe - for one flat fee and in a short period of time.

Passing the Interview - If you're lucky enough to have your resume chosen then you'll usually be called for an interview. Take the time to prepare fully for the interview. First impressions last so it's important to attend an interview with the thought that it's always a do-or-die situation. Use this to motivate you to do your best!

For interview success, you should first dress appropriately. Wear business attire as much possible. Secondly, develop a confident attitude. If you know that you have all the necessary requirements for the job then answer their questions confidently - but be sure not to end up sounding cocky or condescending, of course. Thirdly, establish rapport with your interviewer. Be honest but discreet about your opinions.

Follow-Up the Matter - Sometimes, delayed results of a job interview is only the result of a hectic schedule. The company may have overlooked your application because of certain circumstances. As such, don't hesitate to give them a follow-up letter or call. Don't be pushy!

If things don't work out with your first few attempts to land a job - it's okay. There are plenty other fishes in the job market. Don't give up!
