My dream job is the job I am pursuing now. I was always told to follow my dreams, no matter how outrageous, and this job is one of them. Although my friends and most people I come in contact with believe English Literature to be a major that is, well, rather odd for a 19 year old male to pursue. I, however, have been reading from a young age and once I start a book I can not put it down. That is why my dream job would be to become a professor of English literature.

Being a professor of English literature would give me a chance to study, in depth, many different pieces of work that would be difficult to do as a side project on top of another different job. I would love to share with others my analysis of different books and their complex structure and underlying messages. My goal is to gain a PhD in the field of English literature so I am able to teach it to advanced students who enjoy this topic as much as I do.

I also have many relatives that have PhD, although in different subjects. They are very intelligent people that I admire greatly and I enjoy the intelligent conversations I have with them. They often tell me of the different countries they were able to visit because of their PhD’s. To visit a different country and lecture on a topic that I love so much would be a definite perk of having a PhD. To be in the country were many of my favorite artists and writers were born and raised would be quite fascinating. To see Shakespeare’s home, Stratford-upon-Avon, or the captivating Greece where tales of great gods, Hercules and the accursed Oedipus were written.

To be a professor of English literature would be the greatest job in the world. To be able to do the things I love and to be paid for it would be terrific to say the least. This job would have infinite perks with no downfalls. I can think of no better job.
