Becoming a Commercial Diver - StudentScholarships.org

Several years ago, my Dad had me take a scuba diving class. It was the most worthwhile class with the most useful information I have ever taken. Since then my Dad and I have logged a lot of dives. My ultimate dream job would be to become a commercial diver in a beautiful warm place like Florida or in the Bahamas. I love diving so much, that to make a whole career of it would be amazing and fulfilling. When you are down underwater it is almost as if the world above you no longer exists. The underwater world is perceived in a totally different light when you can breathe beneath the surface.

I want to buy a small hut, like you see in the movies with the grass roof and the bamboo siding. It will have a pier going out into the sea with a staircase leading down to a dock. Attached to the dock will be a sailboat on the left side, which I will use to take people on sailing trips when I am not diving. On the right side of the dock, will be a Grady White motorboat that I can use to take customers out to go diving on stunning and colorful coral reefs.

During most of my time customers can hire my services to go on wreckage dives to collect lost items. Diving on shipwrecks is amazing. The pressure of the water dragging the ship down to the bottom has blown out the portholes. Where you used to see the horizon line through the portholes you now see little fish swimming in and out of their vacant circles. Going in the ships can be scary, especially if you are scared of tight spaces, but I am always amazed to see how fully intact objects are that have been lost for so long. The mud on the bottom helps preserve articles that would otherwise have crumbled and disintegrated soon after touching the water.

Nothing would make me more satisfied than to see as much of the world beneath the ocean as possible. Sharing part of my life and experience with other people would also be thrilling. I love showing people how to dive and taking them to see things they can only see underwater. It can be a once in a lifetime experience for some people, and seeing their smiles as a huge fish swims past their face is something that can only be appreciated if you see it for yourself. I hope someday my dream job can become a reality for me instead of just a wish.
