Becoming a Nurse Practitioner in the US - A Step by Step Approach

In United States, in order to become a licensed nurse practitioner, a person is required to possess a master degree or a doctoral degree. This profession has become one of the most prospective careers this year. If you have intention to join this line, here are SIX essential steps you need to follow:

1st Step:

Prepare yourself to pursue a 4-year degree program. The most ideal course would be Bachelor of Science in Nursing.

2nd Step:

After completion of this program, you are required to work as a registered nurse in medical industry for one to two years in order to gain practical experience. In order to be successful in this line, having hands-on experience is a MUST.

3rd Step:

After equipping yourself with adequate real world experience, you can start planning which area you would like to specialize. There are many areas like occupational health, pediatric critical care, neonatology, acute care, etc which you can choose to focus.

4th Step:

Consult the National Student Nurses Association to find out more information about those reputable medical institutions in US. This association is able to provide you reliable references. Submit your application after doing thorough research. Look for institution which suits your requirements.

5th Step:

Complete the study and equip yourself with necessary knowledge and skills. Bear in mind that you are required to complete some post master work before you graduate.

6th Step:

Obtain the detailed information from the National Association of State Boards of Nursing and prepare yourself to sit for the licensure examination.

Finally, you can start your career as a nurse practitioner in health care industry once you have passed the exam. Getting yourself into this rewarding field is not really difficult. You need hard effort and consistency in your study in order to achieve great success.
