Becoming A Professional Organizer- 7 Secrets

Aspiring to be a Professional Organizer?
Before you get into the process of getting certified, you should know first these seven very important secrets. Becoming a professional organizer takes much more than being someone who loves order and wants to help people clean up their messes.
Here are the seven secrets:
1. Learning a skill is not the same as learning how to sell. Although you may be certified as a professional organizer, most of you are lacking in the area of sales. How do you present it to others? How do you know what to charge? What is the right price? How do you develop personal skills necessary to become somebody who can sell it? I've helped a number of professional organizers learn how to sell without selling--how to new clients without feeling like their talking to a sales person.
2. Learning a skill is not the same as running a business. Having been able to work with many different small business owners, I can tell you that to be a professional organizer will create many more job responsibilities for you than you currently realize. 3. Many people need your service but few people want it. And by aiming to sell the need rather than selling something that they want, they miss out on many sales and opportunity to help people.

4. Give a man a fish… I'm sure you're familiar with the proverb that if you teach a man to fish, he can eat for a lifetime. A lot of professional organizers go in and do a one-time thing and then leave, rather thangiving them a soulution that helps them learn how to change internally. By helping a person change their behavior, you actually endear the client to you and build a long-term relationship for future sales.
the people who are willing to pay you top dollar to work with you is critical for long term business success.
6. It's hard to justify ROI with professional organizers. Since a lot professional organizers do not have the background of business understanding, they don't know how to justify the return-on-investment for their services. What will they gain in terms of their income and productivity if they have your services If you're not able to show those numbers to them, it will decrease the value of your service.
The fact is that when you are helping the clients increase their productivity (which includes improving their organization), you are bringing much more value to the market place and thus can make demand top dollar.

I once overheard a business owner say that he felt more productive when he took a vacation, though not for the reasons one might expect.
