The though t of switching careers scares and intimidates people enough to make them stay and suffer in their present jobs. Finding a new career or employer can be a long and extremely stressful task. More often than not, opportunities seem rare and anything that caught your interest has about a hundred or so applicants vying for the position. The worst part is having your application rejected or never answered. Though this is normal, a rejection or two often dissuades the applicant from applying again to other jobs. Frankly, employers are having a hard time sorting out the applicants and are often overwhelmed with the number of resumes passed.
Magazines and other self help materials give out various interview tips, articles on writing the perfect resume, and other ways to obtain that job. What it forgets however, is that the top element in job finding is patience. Patience is a virtue all jobseekers must have. It’s tough, but it’s the only thing you can do when a career plan you designed is not working out the way you planned it to. With the hundreds and thousands of applicants available, it can take time before the job you want opens up for new employees. Half of job finding is luck and timing, so don’t despair. One should hold on to their plans and not give up when things don’t go as planned. Hope and desire should always be alive, though it could be better if you leave the expectation part out of the picture.
It is better to hope than to expect as expectations have a way of disappointing the individual. Often, disappointments lead to negative and dejected thinking and can destroy a well thought career plan. One’s skills and experiences though they appear perfectly matched to the position does not necessarily mean that you get the job. Keep in mind that there are other individuals who applied for the position too. Applicants should submit their resumes and assume that the career they want is on the way in spite of who calls them back or not. Always be positive and never allow rejections to hold you back. Patience, visualization, and positive thinking are your aces in the battle for the perfect career.
Whenever possible, begin a career while employed. This can relieve or lessen the stress if there are unexpected lay-offs. It is usual however, to hear stories of people losing their jobs and looking for another because of the shift in the economy. At any rate, try to use all resources available, let go of expectations, and be positive. Try also to have as many activities as you can to keep yourself from thinking of not being called back.
