Choosing The Right Job For A Better Career-Long Term Strategies That Can Make All The Difference

Posted: Feb 15, 2010 |Comments: 0 | Views: 129 |

Many people seem to think that job and career are synonymous whereas they mean quite different things. Only when you understand the distinction can you take up the right job in the short term to pave the way for better career prospects in the long term. A job is the actual work that you do like being a programmer while career is your chosen profession like a software engineer.

In order to build a solid career you can follow a few tips especially in the first few jobs you hold. Choosing a large company is a good idea from many angles - there are a number of opportunities, there is better scope to learn technical as well as soft skills and you can build a network of people which can be useful in the long run.

Looking at your role and title can be more crucial in the beginning than the remuneration that goes with the job. For instance a team lead job with lesser pay might prove to be better for the future than a programmer job with higher pay.

When you have a wider experience that is in technical as well as managerial your next job will likely get you more responsibilities and fetch you greater benefits overall!

It is also important to know the environment in which you will work - a highly motivated, smart work force means you will have a setting to learn more. Ensuring that you will be given the flexibility and opportunities to raise yourself is also crucial. You might end up restricting your growth if you go into a place which has too many rigid rules and regulations.

Finally getting boss who can be a good mentor that is the biggest boon your job as well as career can ever ask for!
