The construction industry offers a wide variety of job opportunities. Some of which require a University degree, some of which will require office experience and on-site jobs will generally require that workers be fit and healthy.

An Architect designs the plans for the structure being built. An architect may be asked to come up with an original design or he may be asked to follow a general outline of what the developers wish the final project to look like. An architect will need to have passed the relevant examinations in order to practice professionally. They are also expected to deliver accurate, structurally sound plans and to alert the developers to any complications that may arise during the project's life. An architect will also be expected to produce plans that comply with local building and environmental laws.

A General Labourer is an unskilled workerwho follows the instructions of foremen and supervisors on site. They must be physically fit and relatively strong as the job often entails lifting heavy building materials. They will be expected to lend support to other workers on site. General labourers often work on a short-term basis but sometimes receive contracts on longer-term projects.

A Window Fitter is responsible for the installation of windows and glass doors into a building. It is their job to take measurements and to ensure that the windows they install are of the correct size. With older buildings, window fitters may have to make replica frames to emulate the style of the frames they are replacing. Carpentry and/or metal work skills can be extremely useful in this field as fitters may be required to make or alter frames.

A Plasterer has to plaster internal walls, ceiling and partitions according to the instructions he receives on site. He may be required to mix his own plaster or else he can delegate this task to another worker on site. Plasterers may also need to be able to construct simple scaffolds in order for them to reach high ceilings or walls. Plasterers should also be able to advise on issues such as where wiring through a wall should go.
