Dealing With Getting Fired

There are many ways to deal with getting fired. Before all the emotions start to settle in, the first thing you should do is go down and start collecting unemployment insurance. No matter if you think you may have another job quickly, this money is yours, just for this purpose. Many feel ashamed collecting this money, but there is nothing the be ashamed of, things happen. It is a relatively easy process, and can be done online in most cases.

A good thing would be to list the reasons you got fired, taking the responsibility for your own actions. This will not only put things in better perspective, but also will give you an idea of what different steps can be taken in the future to prevent getting fired again. You may find out that what you really need is a career change, and this could be the beginning of a new road for you. You may also find you may want to take some anger management classes, or some techniques for easing stress and tension.

First thing to do when seeking new employment is to go over and review your resume. You will need to add the job you just had, any special skills you may have learned, and anything else of importance you can think of. This would also be a good time to check over your employment history, you may find errors that might have been missed before. It is also a good time to review your educational background, and you may decide that you want to take some classes to up you knowledge about certain things. Once you have upgraded your resume, it would be a good idea to present it to a friend who can give you an honest assessment of it and any possible improvements needed. It may have been a long time since you were out looking for employment, and you may need a more modernized look to your documents.

The local copy shop is your new friend. Use their services, and make several copies of your resume, so they are ready to go. There are many ways to start looking for a new job, and one of them is certainly through a job service. They usually have many postings at their agency, but don't just rely on them. You could look in the paper, but these day, many employers have started posting their listings online. Your local paper probably has an online employment site which is free for you to sign up for. Once you have provided a profile, post what kinds of jobs or careers you are interested in, you will receive an email each time something that fits your profile comes up. It is a good idea to be as specific as you can. For example, if you are looking for a local delivery driver but just put driver down, you will receive notices for all different kinds of jobs in that category, not just local delivery. Do some networking with friends who are still working, maybe they can help get you a job in their line of work. You should always show up to interviews on time, cleanly dressed and shaven.
