Public Transportation in Los Angeles, California which consists of the buses and the train systems is the responsibility of the MTA Metropolitan Transportation Authority previously known as the RTD Rapid Transit District.
Arthur Winston was born on March 22, 1906 in Oklahoma before it became a state. He worked as a Service Attendant Leader in the South Los Angeles, MTA Division that was named after him in 1997. Up to his final days he was responsible for a crew of eleven employees that cleaned, maintained and refueled the metro buses.
The United States Department of Labor indicated that he set the record as the most reliable worker they have on record. During his seventy two years of employment, he only missed one day of work when he took the day off to go to his wife Frances’ funeral in 1988.
In 1996 President Bill Clinton awarded him with an Employee of the Century citation for his work ethic and dedication.
He retired from the MTA on his 100th birthday, March 22, 2006 after seventy two years of service as an employee for the company. There are many people who cannot even make it seventy two days without missing one day of work.
His advice to kids was to just get up and go to work. He also said that you have to like your job in the first place.
He had plans to stay active in his retirement. Unfortunately, Arthur Winston did not get to enjoy very much time as a retired person because he died in April 2006 just a few weeks after he retired.

Dear Mr. Berr, My Great-Aunt owned a Life ...
By: John | 24-08-2008
Dear Mr. Berr, My Great-Aunt owned a Life Insurance policy, for which she had a physical certificate. It was very old (1920s, 30s/not sure of the year). My mother was the benficiary of her estate when she died in 1992 or 1993. At the time, I asked a Financial Advisor if the certificate had any value. He said it did not, but he hardly even looked at it, so I took it home. Over they ears I married, moved etc. and cannot locate the policy. I remember it being from Traveler's Insurance. I have already checked the Connecticut and New York (states in which she lived) unclaimed assets sites, but found nothing. (1) Where can I go to locate information on this policy? (2) Can the death benefit still be recovered? (3) I imagine it was a cash-value policy because of the year it was issued, so is it possible that this policy has substantial value? Thank you. John M.
