Becoming a chartered accountant is a long process, involving at least three years of study, along with work experience, to qualify. To become a successful chartered accountant you must be dedicated to earning the training you need, because it's not a quick or easy process.

Good chartered accountants often boast personalities that are communicative, smart, cooperative and analytical. It's important for an accountant to be approachable and friendly, whilst still maintaining a professional demeanour in order to gain the trust and respect of clients. Most students that become chartered accountants do so after undertaking an undergraduate degree in a similar subject that interests them. From there, they take the three-year certification degree to become an accountant.

Not all accountants become chartered accountants, but taking the chartered course will ensure that your employment prospects are strong. You should also try to gain some work experience through an accountancy agency that will be able to show you the ropes of actually working as an accountant.

You will also be required to complete a handbook of practical knowledge and information that will be assessed by your instructor or teacher, to ensure that you are prepared to take on a fully-fledged chartered accountant position.

After learning the basics of accountancy jobs, you can take the Associated Chartered Accountant exam, which will prepare you not only to enter the workplace, but ensures that you will be able to help your customers with their accounting needs as well. ACA entry-level requirements are two A-levels and three GCSEs with a strong emphasis on good grades in maths and English writing.

Accountancy jobs are an excellent way to enter the workforce and make an impact on the businesses and companies you work for. The work is also challenging and interesting, and will allow you to work in a number of different industries. In many cases, those who already have an accountancy job are able to have their chartered accountant training paid for by their employer, to ensure they are up-to-date and fully educated in the accountancy business.
