How To Save Your Job In 6 Easy Steps. Step 5 - Control Your Destiny

Posted: Mar 10, 2010 |Comments: 0 |

It is very important that you understand this as it can affect the rest of your working life.

Sometimes, no matter how hard we try, we're not going to get our boss to change his stripes. He is going to continue to be a jackass.

Eventually, when he can find a replacement, he is going to let you go. It could be months or even years, but the day will come. What you DON'T want to happen is to allow yourself to get fired. You want to leave on your own terms.

Why?

The answer is simple. You're going to have to get a new job. And having a "firing" on your record is not going to look good for a new employer.

But how do you handle this. Susan Futterman suggests simply explaining to your new employer to be that you and your old employer had a difference of opinion on how to best do things… and that you thought the most professional way to handle it was to move on…and leave it at that.

By doing this, your new employer will have a lot of respect for you that you didn't bad mouth your old boss. This is something that you NEVER want to do.

Therefore, in order to do this, you MUST leave your old job on good terms. Explain to your boss exactly what you are going to explain to any prospective employers…that you don't agree with how he feels things should be run and you feel it is best you move on.

This puts YOU in control of your future…not him.
