Job Workshops - Helping Students Gain Confidence

Many students find it difficult to properly sell their skills to a potential employer. They start out well enough, but are unable to find the job that meets their needs and suits their capabilities.

To meet the needs of these students, various workshops have been developed to teach and develop all the skills that are needed when a student is looking for the right job opportunity.

These workshops teach students everything from resume writing skills to negotiating salaries. Many well-known professors and businessmen lend their knowledge to help these students learn the latest trends in the business world and nurture them into confident interviewees.

The following points are often covered in job workshops:

Interview Techniques

Many students are not aware of the basics of how an interview is conducted and how to succeed at one. Job workshops often begin by teaching the very basics of job interviewing techniques.

In these lessons, students learn how to dress formally, manners, and proper etiquette that should always be followed no matter how informal the interview may be. You will also be provided with sample questions that should be asked in an interview.

The purpose of this session is to help you to learn all the interview essentials.

Resume Writing

It is sad but true - many college graduates are unable to draft their own resumes. A resume not only plays a very important role in landing an interview, but also represents you as a candidate.

A well-drafted resume always catches the employer's eye. Resume writing lessons helps students to draft their own resume based on the latest trends in the business world. Resume writing also teaches students how to tailor their resumes as their education advances and work experience grows.

There are also advanced resume writing sessions that help students draft resumes geared for a particular field. However, advanced lessons can be attended only by students who have their own resume and have gone through the basic resume writing workshop.

Keep an Eye Out For Potential Employers

This is one of the most important parts of a job workshop. In this session, students are taught how to search for potential employers. Many do not know where or even how to look out for the right jobs, and thus end up very confused about how to proceed.

However with these sessions, students learn the technique of grabbing the attention of the right employer via the internet, public events or through word of mouth contacts. With this session, students find it very easy to find the industry's top employers.

Getting Ready For the Interview

In this session, students are taught how to prepare themselves for the various rounds of interviews. They learn important skills such as how to approach the interviewer and how to introduce and present themselves.

Each job workshop will have its own unique way of guiding students. These workshops act as a kind of dress rehearsal. It not only builds their confidence, but also helps to give them the tools necessary to succeed.
