Media include newspapers, magazines, radio, television, films, internet, etc. they play an important role in providing information and cater to the educational needs of the people. Some media tools are purely based on the owner's commercial interst, while some strike a balance between public interest and commercial needs of the industry in its delivery of services. Most media organizations are in private hands, but some are also in the ands of the government, providing government media jobs.

In India, certain media organizations are directly under the control of central government. The ministry of Information and Broadcasting is the authority that looks after these government media units. The activities of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting pertain to three broad areas i.e. the broadcasting sector, the film sector and the information sector. These three try to meet the information, education and entertainment job needs of the society.

The government media units in which one can apply for Jobs are:

3.) Press information bureau
4.) Publication division
5.) Research, reference and training division
6.) Publication Division
7.) Research, Reference and Training Division
8.) Directorate of advertising and Visual Publicity

12.) National Films Archives of India

Over the years, the government of India has taken special pains to bring about significant improvements in infrastructural development. This includes in particular, installation of transmission facilities, studios and program production facilities for both. Both regional and local facilities are being created to promote satellite based broadcasting

Under the Prasar Bharati Act 1990, the electronic media was bought under Prasar Bharati, an autonomous body.

In a democratic set up, print media plays a vital role in the dissemination of news. Today, Indians have a wide range of newspapers and periodicals reaching at their doorsteps. These come in different languages and at different intervals, catering to different tastes of readers on a plethora of subjects.

The Indian press, mainly in private hands, fights a healthy competition to give good quality newspapers at the minimum price. At the same time, the Indian press stands as a pillar of the democracy. Newspapers are published in more than 100 languages and dialects. The highest number of newspapers and periodicals are published in hindi followed by English, Urdu, Bengali, Marathi and Tamil.

Also, news agencies like Press Trust of India, United News of India, Hindustan Samachar and Samachar Bharati, forms the major sources for disseminating information to the public. The job in these organizations is a pride of any Indian national. As these do not only cater the information sector of the country, but also plays the role of a moderator between the audience and the various industries, it's a people's medium to express their views freely and journalists or reporters or working in any other department of the communication sector helps in serving the people of the country in their race towards justice and freedom.
