Mom Entrepreneurs - How They Do It All

Posted: Sep 07, 2011 |Comments: 0 |

For this week's post about Moms who do it all, it's all about making time. Whether it's the daily routines of family life like taking the kids to school or sending late-night emails to ensure your business is running smoothly. One of the other most common comments I heard was to take some time for yourself when you can – something we should all try to remember.

We were recently mentioned in an article "MOM ENTREPRENEURS – HOW THEY DO IT ALL".

The article is wonderful and is full of tips we can all use.  We all lead busy lives.  Being able to see the insight in to how these amazing entrepreneurs juggle it all is eye opening.

"As a mother of 3 and a small business owner, I strive to be in the moment of whatever I'm doing.  Though I consider myself and excellent multitasker, I think it's vital to connect with my kids or customers when I'm with them.  I try to focus my attention on the individual that I'm with, whether it's a bedtime routine or answering a customer's question.  People can tell if your mind is elsewhere, so be present and accounted for whenever possible. The one common thread amongst all of the entrepreneurs is finding time during their busy schedules.  As anyone knows who has kids, working and attending to kids can be very stressful and hard to pull off.

Here are some tips you can follow in being more successful in working from home and still attending to your family duties.

  • Stay Up Late  This can be tough to do after a long day, but if you can stay up a little later after everyone has gone to sleep you will find a few hours of productivity.  Usually the house will be quiet by this time and you should have little to no distractions.
  • Wake Up Early  Opposite of staying up late is to wake up early.  If you can wake up an hour or two before everyone else you will be able to get some work done before the day starts.  This is a wonderful way to start your day, and to get some things done before the day starts.
  • Keep Your Children Busy  Find something that will keep your children's attention for a period of twenty to thirty minutes.  This will take some experimentation to find out what will work for your child.  Thirty minutes will give you plenty of time to take that important phone call with a client or give you a dash of productivity.
  • Simplify  Cut down on the activities that steal your focus.  TV watching, web surfing, or any other idle activity.  Obviously you need some down time, just don't let these things become a habit.
  • Swap  Find another stay-at-home mom who works out of the house and see if you can swap every now and then.  Let the kids all go to one house one day, and the other house the next week.  This would give you one full day of productivity.

With some planning and some patience working at home can be a very rewarding experience.  Not only will you have the satisfaction of running your own business.  You will also be able to spend time with your children that you normally wouldn't get to in the corporate world.
