David Chan, an Internet marketer and business development professional wants you to succeed as a musician. The labels can't help you and Internet marketing is the new frontier. It's time for you to take control of your own destiny.
Managing your music career these days is not as simple as it was in the "old" days.
Those old days are really not that old, though. But, the Internet has really changed how people produce, manage, promote and distribute music. In today's world, the music labels are all but gone and those that have survived don't know how to promote musicians in this new channel called the Internet.
Simply putting up a website or creating a MySpace account is not managing your music career. But, you see tens of thousands of musicians believing that if you put it up "they will come." The reality is that there are over 300 million websites in the world today. If you multiply that by the number of web pages each site has, you can imagine how difficult it is to be visible by those who really matter.
It's really important now more than ever that musicians take control of their own marketing ... not just any marketing, but Internet marketing. A whole new world exists to get your music promoted. By now, you've certainly heard of Facebook, Twitter and YouTube. But, do you really know how they work? What are the tricks to generating fans, followers and subscribers and why?
And, your music career also needs to be boosted by the ongoing press, play time, and live events. These are not easy tasks to accomplish on a limited budget and without any knowledge of how to do them. For example, did you know that for as little as $50 you can send out your own online press release which will hit many of the major press contacts? Or, that your website is less important than how many links you have back to your website?
There are a number of self help sites sprouting up on the Internet to help musicians. One new membership site is the Musicians Association for Independence (MAI). It is sponsored by 2008 Grammy winner Patti Austin and can be found through Patti Austin's How To Sing website.

StudentScholarships.org - I am going to be an Actor
By: Drew Backley | 31/12/2009My dream job is acting, because I want the chance to inspire someone to experience the thrill of performing in front of a live audience. I want the chance to be to someone else what Angela Lansbury and Stephen Sondheim are to me—-the embodiment of talent.
StudentScholarships.org - A Career as a Journalist
By: Drew Backley | 31/12/2009In Journalism, I have already had a few achievements. I became Head Editor of my school newspapers my junior year in High School where I was the only junior in a class full of seniors. My senior year, I served as the Editor-in-Chief and I was awarded the "Star Award" (student of the year) from the Detroit Free Press in May 2005. For me, winning awards is not the easiest thing to accomplish.
StudentScholarships.org - It is all about Goal Setting
By: Drew Backley | 31/12/2009Goal setting has become a routine and practiced concept in human society. We are continually taught to set goals, to reach for the stars and to dream big. StudentScholarships.org - Choosing a Career as a Writer
By: Drew Backley | 31/12/2009To me, a writer can do whatever he or she desires, pristine or simply selfish in motive. If a writer is flamboyant, he or she can write a story about the glory of toilets. If a writer is a serious stooge, then he or she can write a story about the genocide in Sudan.
StudentScholarships.org - I want to be an Actress
By: Drew Backley | 31/12/2009For me, acting is living in a moment. The art of theater is to suspend a moment, and unearth everything that makes this particular moment real. It is the theater’s duty to take that moment and present it to the audience so that they can connect with the moment and get in touch with their own emotions.
StudentScholarships.org - My Ideal Job
By: Drew Backley | 31/12/2009My ideal job, one that I would dream for is simply this, to inspire, motivate, and equip servant leaders, to devastate this world with love. I want to take the world’s lies and replace them with the truth, the slothfulness into productivity, the anger into peace, and the hatred into love. I want my life to make a difference within this world. I do not want to sit back and enjoy a job with a good salary and benefits that adds up to nothing as far as real differences made

By: Drew Backley | 31/12/2009To create art through film has always been my dream, and although a tedious and painstaking process, in the end it appears to be worth all of the hard work applied to it.

A Rallying Cry for the Obama Education Speech
By: David Chan | 23/09/2009 | PoliticsIf the Obama education speech did not get you incensed about our lackluster education performance, it should. Because not only are we losing jobs to higher skilled, better trained, off-shore workers, we're creating a negative legacy for our children.
Palm Pre Or Apple iPhone - More iPhone WiFi Woes
By: David Chan | 09/09/2009 | Cell PhonesThis WiFi problem that Apple still has not corrected is just one of the reasons that I am considering switching to the Palm Pre. The other major reason is AT&T's outrageous pricing plans. They seem to take the stance that "if you want the Apple iPhone", you have no choice. But, we now DO have a choice.
