Many of the mysteries of spirituality have been hidden from the wise and the prudent and have been revealed to the babes of the land. God likes people to be humble and meek because he says that is what he is - meek and lowly in heart. Therefore, he seeks to give rest to those who are like him and will learn from him, and promises burdens to become lighter.
The Pharisees seem to always be looking for fault in Jesus and his disciples. There was a time when Jesus went on the Sabbath day through the corn. His disciples were hungry and began to pluck the ears of corn and to eat. When the Pharisees saw this, they complained that the disciples did something not lawful on the Sabbath day.
Jesus told the Pharisees that when David and the people with him were hungry they entered into the house of God and ate the shewbread, which was not lawful for him or the others that were with him to eat as the shewbread was only for the priests at that time. He asked the Pharisees if they had read the law, how that on the Sabbath days the priests in the temple profane the Sabbath, and are blameless? He said in this place there is one greater than the temple, so if they had known what that meant, he would have mercy, and not sacrifice, and the Pharisees would have never condemned the guiltless. Jesus said the Son of man is Lord even of the Sabbath day. In other words, who were they to try and condemn the "boss" of all things.
Jesus left and went into their synagogue where he found a man with his hand withered. Now they ask Jesus is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath days, as if to try and find another way to accuse Jesus of doing wrong. Now Jesus answered them saying what man is it among you that would have one sheep to fall into a pit on the Sabbath day, would he not grab hold of that sheep and try to pull it out? In other words, Jesus said, now think about this for a moment and see just how "silly" your attempts of accusation truly are. Jesus then said is not a man better than a sheep? Now do you see why it is lawful and alright to do good things on the Sabbath days?
I have heard people say the silliest things they "would not do" on the Sabbath day, such as eat out in a restaurant..........there is no place in the book of instructions where I can find there is "wrong" in eating in a restaurant on the Sabbath day. If you can't find it in the book of instruction, then do not add it on.
Jesus turned to the man with the withered hand and said for him to stretch his hand forth to him. The man stretched his hand forth to Jesus and it was restored whole just like the other hand.
After this, the Pharisees were still looking to lay blame upon Jesus for some reason or another, so they went out and held a council or a meeting against Jesus. The topic of this meeting was how they could destroy Jesus.
When Jesus knew of their plans, he just withdrew himself from their wickedness. The multitudes of other people followed after Jesus and he healed them all. He also told them to not make it known to others. I suppose Jesus now knew the bad guys were after him; however, he still wanted to help those that would receive him so he wished for it to be done in secret or behind the backs of those who were trying to find fault in him. Why should others who trust Jesus and who are in need suffer just because a select few wanted to stop Jesus? If God, the Father in Heaven puts his approval on what you do for others, it is best to try and ignore any group of people who says otherwise.
All this came to pass to fulfill the prophesy spoken by E-sai'as the prophet saying: "behold my servant, whom I have chosen, my beloved, in whom my soul is well pleased: I will put my spirit upon him, and he shall show judgment to the Gentiles. He shall not strive, nor cry; neither shall any man hear his voice in the streets. A bruised reed shall he not break, and smoking flax shall he not quench, till he send forth judgment unto victory. And in his name shall the Gentiles trust.
From this story about Jesus I get at this time, we who believe in Jesus today will also come across others who will try their best to find fault in us and will even describe our works of good as something "evil." I have experienced this in my walk as a prisoner of Christ. I have done good works in the name of Jesus with all meekness, lowliness and humbleness and knowing I was following the instructions given me of the Holy Ghost, however, there have been little clicks of people who sought to destroy me and turned my good works into something they described in evil terms against me. I want you to know though, I was always delivered........
I know this man Jesus, and you can know him too. Remember his yoke is easy and his burden is light. He is meek and lowly in heart and you shall find rest with him for your souls. His eyes are turned away from the haughty and the proud as well as false accusers.
