Sales as a Temporary Career

Posted: Nov 30, 2009 |Comments: 0 |

When you think of contract or temporary jobs, fields like customer service or data entry typically come to mind.  Due to worker shortages some companies in the medical industry have had to turn to hiring nurses, surgery techs and even pharmacists on a contract basis.

One field that you wouldn’t think could be outsourced is sales.  With the high level of training needed to update a sales staff on product knowledge plus the degree of difficulty in becoming a successful salesperson, it doesn’t seem to be the first job that comes to mind that is on a contract basis.

MarketStar has taken an out of the box type of approach to sales and marketing.  By hiring and training direct sales reps and retail salespeople the company can provide an entire sales force of contracted workers.  Since they manage so many different projects, the sales force simply moves to another project when an existing project ends.  This reduces turnover and required sales training.

Why would anyone want a temporary sales career?  Reality is employees simply don’t work for the same company for thirty years any more.  Employment is becoming increasingly temporary in nature and workers are adapting.  If you want flexibility and like sales, working for a company like MarketStar is actually a good idea.

The company has been in business for over twenty years and works with some of the largest companies in the world like Sony, Whirlpool and Hoover.  The sales jobs are diverse too.  Sales can take many forms so MarketStar provides direct sales, field sales, inside sales and VAR reps as part of its sales force management program.

While at first glance a temporary sales career doesn’t seem like a good idea, MarketStar has actually made the concept work.  By creating a corporate culture based on sales and performance, the company is able to recruit and hire a stable of sales talent to work on its client’s projects.  If you’re looking for a job, why not consider a temporary career in sales?

While Independent Sales Representatives or Manufacturer's Reps are not right for all circumstances, their outstanding advantages could be right for you. Especially, if you need to take your company into new markets or grow existing markets with a lower up-front cost.

Sometimes it seems when the word outsourcing is mentioned, it almost feels like a dirty word. Many American workers think outsourcing means firing Americans and shipping their jobs overseas. That is one type of outsourcing also called offshoring, but there are other beneficial methods of outsourcing that are continuing to grow in popularity. Here are my five biggest reasons outsourcing will grow in this new decade.

If a picture is worth a thousand words, LG’s new mobile phone the eXpo, is taking that cliché to a level never seen before in history. As cell phones have become smarter and able to take and display pictures and video, the one advantage of the phone…small size and portability…became a disadvantage due to small screen sizes.

I attended a meeting last month about the topic of outsourcing. Before it started, I asked the woman leading it if she was going to talk about offshoring which is a type of outsourcing. She said she was going to treat them as the same thing. That conversation led me to think probably a lot of people think the same way. In this article I’m going to discuss the definitions and differences between outsourcing and offshoring.
