Shopping in Bristol
There’s no doubt that shopping is a topic that has only got 2 categories. You either love it or you hate it. There’s no middle ground. Unfortunately I fall into the second category. However when I mentioned to my daughters that I was going to write an article on shopping their faces lit up and my street credibility rose a good few notches. Their whole week is geared around the Saturday afternoon shopping experience. A trip to the gym is necessary so that they are in top physical shape for Saturday and able to carry all the bags that would have an Olympic weightlifter struggling. Arrangements are made with their friends with military precision and the whole afternoon planned to the smallest detail.
The first trip must always be to a shoe shop. I can say this with some certainty as we must have hundreds of pairs of shoes lying about the house. Not only a pair for every day of the week but a pair for every occasion. Once worn they are discarded in any available nook or cranny usually never to be worn again. It wouldn’t be so bad if they put them away somewhere out of sight but that would be far too simple. The occasional rant and storming around the house with a black bag threatening to throw them all in the bin gets a temporary clean up but it doesn’t last long. I think the reasoning is that if they are put away tidily in their bedroom that means there is less room for all the other clothes that they must buy. By the time they return exhausted there will be jumpers, dresses, hats and coats to go with the shoes. Then it’s straight onto Facebook to check that their friends got home OK (even though they only live round the corner), to tell other friends of the experiences encountered and to immediately start planning for next week.
