Shopping within Bristol

It's that time of year when the dreaded ‘C' word steps into the public consciousness: Christmas. From a cynical perspective in the world today, Christmas entails only one thing: spending money. In other words, shopping for Christmas presents. A sometimes painful process of trawling through overcrowded shops and encountering a melee of irritable Christmas consumers, it's important to know where to go to find all the best outlets.

Bristol is the eight most populous city in Great Britain and with such a large population to cater for, it has all the kind of retail establishments that you would expect to find or need. With the recent stylishly developed Cabot Circus shopping centre, there are now more places to find what you're looking for than ever before such as the House of Fraser and Harvey Nicholls department stores. Other such leading fashion retailers such as the trend-setting TopShop/Man, the irresistible River Island and the heart-racing H&M are there to kit you out for all walks of life. And for the ardent tech-heads, there is an Apple shop nearby to sort all your hi-tech requirements.

Just to the north of the city itself is the renowned Cribbs Causeway Centre boasting yet more major outlets but if you're looking for something different, then try St Nicholas market with its array of stalls that has something poles apart from anywhere else. And of course, the aptly named Christmas Steps Quarter provides the diverse and distinctly more serene setting away from the hustle and bustle of the chaos of the retail world with a selection of galleries, furniture and independent clothes shops.

Christmas always seems to be just around the corner and it probably will be everyday before too long. But in Bristol, you can be sure that you'll always be prepared for it.
