StudentScholarships.org - Choosing a Career as a Writer
Call me a fool, a naïve idealist, a confused hedonist, whatever may appeal to you at the moment. But I shall plunge the torso of my mind for an explanation of my ultimate dream job, which is reflective of who I am, of what I hope to be, of where I dare to go. Actually, I just want to have fun while holding onto a purpose.
Dorian Gray could kiss my rear.
In the future, in a time where gas prices reach an incredible high, where politicians are preoccupied with new nukes, where kids in schools are back to practicing bomb drills, I hope to become a writer. To me, a writer can do whatever he or she desires, pristine or simply selfish in motive. If a writer is flamboyant, he or she can write a story about the glory of toilets. If a writer is a serious stooge, then he or she can write a story about the genocide in Sudan.
The reason why I truly want to become a writer is simple: I write to be an East Brunswick prep’s nightmare. I write to express my culture and to make fun of others. I write to fight back. I right to state “I’ll do whatever I want as long as I’m famous.” I write to piss off Robert Frost and that kid named Pot.
A writer isn’t tied down to genres, last demands, hours of the day, or the subtle “You’re fired!” from a CEO of a bankrupt corporation. If I wanted to be a rock star like my idol Joe Strummer, I could do just that. I could spend the night shedding lyrics and then uphold the day with the straining of guitar strings. If I were to change my mind and choose to become a full-time journalist, I shall showcase my resume and resume muckraking.
I can seduce, persuade, propagate, instigate, investigate, revitalize, love, disappoint, disagree, disrespect, disprove, disgust, destroy, divulge, defibrillate, design, share, attack, antagonize, improve, inspire, express, and a lot more.
People revere writers who voice the concerns of the masses. Over due time, writers are immortalized into textbooks, buildings, and into the minds of youthful generations interested in knowing the names who perplexed the corruption in the system.
Then again, the sincere occupation of a writer hangs on the umbilical chord of an unconscious mother. Trashy novelists are stroked with expensive furs while the traditional writer is characterized by overdue payments and misunderstanding. But that’s the joy of it all: the rebelliousness. Taking the road less pissed on not only appeals to me but shall help me turn into a warrior of words.
I’ll suck on the air till there’s nothing left.
I’ll hamper on hemorrhages of hypocritical hierarchs till my name is engraved in the shoddy but historical halls of Westminster Abbey.
