StudentScholarships.org - I am going to be an Actor
The house lights are dimmed in an elaborate theatre, where every seat is filled. The orchestra begins the overture with a tremendous blast of trumpets. The music draws you into a kind of dream before the big red curtain parts to reveal a stage, sprinkled with a few actors. For the next few hours, the audience reverts back to their childhoods, when story-telling was a regular occurrence and they longed for the company of their dearest friends.
Musicals can be an experience not to be missed. Or they can be an experience you wished you would have missed. I am of the former school. Musicals should be an experience for both the actor and the audience member. Because of my love for musicals, performing and several great actors, my dream job consists of being in a Stephen Sondheim musical, with Angela Lansbury, Len Cariou, George Hearn, Julie Andrews and Jerry Herman.
Musicals have always inspired me to be the best I can be, and when I found out how much I love performing for a real, LIVE audience, I decided it would be more like fun than work. And I was right! Musicals have a certain light-hearted feeling about them that make everyone want to participate. If the actors are aware and concentrating on their characters, they can draw the audience in and make them feel as though they are a part of the story. As an audience member, I’ve formed bonds with many actors. Those bonds are created when performers figuratively drag you, as an audience member, up onto the stage and force you to participate—to feel their emotions. Those emotions are not soon forgotten and the experience of being to a unique performance that will never happen the exact same way again, is something to carry along for the rest of your life.
My dream job is acting, because I want the chance to inspire someone to experience the thrill of performing in front of a live audience. I want the chance to be to someone else what Angela Lansbury and Stephen Sondheim are to me—-the embodiment of talent.
