The Charm Of Amber Is Still There

If you have ever rubbed a bigger piece of amber against your palm and had a sensation of warmth, it was not for nothing.

Wearing amber jewellery makes this sensation grow into the sensation of relief and relaxation as amber releases the energy of the body. Ancient civilisations had already determined energetic qualities of amber and it enjoyed the status of a sacred stone.

The original tradition has it that in order to have the healing effect amber is supposed to touch the body. Amber accumulates electrostatic charge and an oxygenated surface collects amber acid. Being a bio-stimulator, the volatile acid has a positive effect on respiratory organs, stimulates the nervous system, foments processes of regeneration and facilitates the function of the heart and kidneys.

In the old days amber items had a magical meaning and often signified the status of a community member. Oracles wore amulets that were supposed to protect them from the evil spirits and the evil eye. Warriors had amber talismans to encourage them and bring them luck. Numerous amber broaches, collars, and necklaces found during archaeological excavations testify to the fact that amber was widely used to produce jewellery, which in turn means that the aesthetic quality of amber was recognised ages ago.

Why are jewellers still fascinated by amber? Maybe because a skilful master is quick to identify the natural beauty the stone is endowed with. Amber surprises with the sheer range of colour – from white, sometimes called royal to dark brown, almost black and with yellow permeated with unnameable nuances of colour, orange, red, green and especially rare blue in the middle.

Talented jewellers from the Baltic countries have given amber its deserved glory back as it is being worked with loving hands. Wide choice of material of different colours, sizes and forms plus the forms obtained by polishing give artists unlimited creative possibilities. For some exceptionally beautiful pieces of jewellery it is enough to find a piece of amber according to its size, colour, the type of treatment, in other words, to simply find its place in the already existing collar or necklace.

Amber supply has dramatically reduced. People learnt to forge amber as early as the beginning of the 19th century and it was Baltic amber in particular that suffered the most. Therefore, real amber has become especially valuable. In order to avoid buying a false piece of amber, do not hesitate to ask the vendor for the certificate testifying the authenticity of the product. You should not be surprised at high prices of amber jewellery, especially if the item you are looking at is the original piece of art. Today you can order a piece of jewellery that will meet your needs and expectations, your mood and personality.

However, the most amusing thing to do is to go to one of the Baltic countries and find the unique piece of jewellery for which you would pay any money. You are not necessarily going to find your luck in one of the expensive art galleries. You are just as likely to find it on the beach, navigating through hundreds of open air stalls full of amber items. Few manage to resists the magic aura of amber. Sometimes it suffices to stop and admire a piece of amber jewellery or to touch it and a true eternal love story begins between you and this wonderful creation of the Mother Nature.
