The Needs Confined Space Rescue Teams Have Beyond Knowledge Of The Procedures

Incorporating the best training for confined space rescue procedures that money can buy in an attempt to prepare your employees for the worst is always a good idea. However, these safety programs don't end here. Confined space rescue teams have to have the equipment items they need in good working order to perform the work and any possible rescue that may be necessary. These also need to be kept in a location that is easy to get to. In the event of an emergency, even one second spent trying to get equipment to work or trying to get access to it can cause death.

Air Detection And Supply Equipment

High-quality equipment used to monitor air quality, protect against harmful toxins, and provide fresh air are absolutely necessary for confined space rescue teams to do their jobs properly. The characteristics of small or constricted areas make it easy and fast for dangerous vapors to gather. Keeping track of the air quality helps workers know when it is time to get out. Specialized respiration equipment helps to protect employees while performing the job. Lastly, these teams need specific items that pump toxic air out of the area and bring in a certain amount of fresh air to keep gases at a manageable level.

Rescue Items

Confined space rescue procedures and projects require the proper equipment to raise and lower the members of their team. One example of a must have is a special backboard that can raise the fallen team member and prevent further damage to their spine. The equipment used to lower and raise the workers also needs to be the correct style to do this portion of the job.

Strong, quality ropes are a must along with a lifting harness such as a Class III. This ensures that the member doesn't fall, but it also ensures they can be lifted through the space. A Class III harness has connections in several locations along the suit so the wearer can be lifted in several ways depending on the specifics of the location. This could be a vertical or horizontal lift. It all depends on the specific situation.

Proper Communication

Because of the location and materials confined space rescue teams need to work in, traditional wireless devices are often ineffective in these situations. The dangers surrounding these situations means constant communication is also a must. Workers need a quality hard line system that allows workers, rescuers, and supplement workers to be in touch consistently. Those involved in confined space rescue procedures can all be notified almost instantly if the quality or situation changes during the job.

Confined space rescue teams need to have the correct equipment in order to perform their jobs safely and effectively. The equipment and the knowledge of confined space rescue procedures can be a large corporate investment. On the bright side, there are two benefits to this kind of investment -- the safety items can be used in many different instances and you can rest easy knowing that your team is thoroughly prepared for the jobs that lie ahead.
