Tips For Creating a Winning Resume

Resumes are a crucial part of obtaining a job. With the right resume, receiving the call for the interview won't be difficult. Because there are so many options and examples to follow, creating the perfect resume for the job that you want can be confusing and difficult. For best results, follow the tips below:

1.     Avoid Certain Texts - Avoid using italic or underlined texts. It's not that it doesn't look great, but it's can be difficult to read. Many employers will consider italics and underlined texts as too "busy". You're attempts to stand out may be dismissed as simply being too unprofessional.

2.     Use an Active Voice - Although you may not be applying for a position as a professional writer, grammar is important. In addition, it's important to make sure that your skills are recognized. The hiring manager may not notice unless you are extremely direct. For example, instead of saying that the "goal was achieved", state that you "achieved the goal".

3.     Always Include the "Objective" - The objective is located directly under your contact information at the top of the resume. It is where you state exactly what type of job you are looking for as well as what your ultimate goal is. This is the first thing your potential employer will see. Be sure to be very direct and concise in stating your objective.

4.     Tailor Your Resume - Tailoring your resume to line up with the job that you want is always an excellent idea. You might also consider finding the job you're interested in first, and then creating your resume. However, be sure to do this quickly, as jobs come and go almost overnight. For best results, create your resume the same day that you locate the job you're interested in.

5.     List Your Most Recent and Important Experience First - The reason why you should do this is because your employer may simply glance at your resume. Because employers are in such a hurry to hire someone for the job, they don't really have time to sit down and analyze, which is why it pays to list the job experience that coincides with the position you are applying for first.

6.     Hire a Professional Proofreader and Resume Editor - Better yet, hire someone to create your resume for you. However, there is always the option of hiring a proofreader and editor. With a professional on your side, you won't have too much to worry about, as they can offer suggestions and help you to fine tune your resume.

An individual can have all the necessary credentials and background experience in the world, but if they can't create a professional resume, they might as well forget about it. What most people do not realize is that the resume is what gets you the interview. You know that you've got the skills, but your employer does not. Your resume is what tells them that you are the right candidate for the job, so it is important that you make every word count.
