In todays economic climate many of us are concerned about our jobs and how long they will last in addition to thinking about our next career move.
Now more than ever many of us are faced with propect of looking for a new job and for many of us we are facing this for the first time in years. I have heard many people recently say to me that they are looking for a new job for the fist time years and have not done an interview before.
I hope that some of the following tips might help you when you are out there looking for new work.
1) Remember thats its important to play to your strengths when you out in the market. What I mean by this in taking advantage of your experience. I meet many people in my recruitment work who are trying other avenues of employment and while this can work, in recessionary times competition is fierce and its important to use the knowledge and experience you've built up in you field of expertise. I would exhaust opportunities in the field you are in before looking to other sectors to work in.
2) Make sure you have the best CV you can have. Even in these times where work is scarce I still see CV's with spelling and gramatical mistakes as well as being poorly layed out. Even in the best of times your cv can get binned for mistakes but now more than ever its important to get it right.
3)having a clear idea of what kind of job you are looking for is vital at the moment. When you tell an agent that you'll do anything it does'nt come accross as well as someone who knows exactly what they want and its easier to find a job for this person becaue they are targeted and when a job comes in thats relevant to that persons field you automatically think of that person.
4) When you are targeted to what area you are looking in you you can also target employers and agencies that are in your field and maximise your chances of employment.
