If you are an aspiring actor and are looking for some tips to help you in your auditions, you have come to the right place. Consider this a starting point in learning how to audition well for and obtain the acting gigs that you really want to be get.
In a nutshell, auditions for actors can be broken into three main parts. First, the preparation, second, the performance, and third, the results. I will take some time to examine all three in depth so you can understand what you must do to be a success when auditioning for your next par.
1- The Preparation - Preparation for anything in life is essential! Without proper preparation, you are preparing yourself to fail and most of the time, fail you will.
First, you should take the time necessary to do research on the project that you will be auditioning for. Learn about the character you want to play, the director, the company, and even the writer of the promotion.
Second, make sure that you have practices enough and know your monologues like the back of your hand. Take the time necessary to practice them out in front of people you know and get their sincere, honest, feedback.
Third, know exactly where your audition is taking place, how long it takes to get there, and make sure to arrive early. Not only does this make you look good, being early helps you become familiar with the surroundings and helps you become more relaxed and ready for the audition.
Fourth, you should also take some water, a snack, and some reading material with you. There will most likely be a lot of waiting time before you have a chance to show them your stuff. You might as well not be bored or hungry while you wait.
2- The Performance
When you enter the audition room, show your confidence, be positive, and most important, be friendly and warm to everyone in the room.
You should be cautious to not have your monologue be more than two minutes long. You should have a longer one ready, just in case the director asks for it.
3- The Results
As you know, you need to be well prepared for rejection because most actors and actresses get turned down for most jobs, most of the time. You can honestly take all of the things written above, work really hard on them, and apply them in your acting routine and still not make it. However, if you do get called back for a second audition, then good for you! Working hard and applying these things will help you be more successful in your career.
