Using Catering And Hospitality Internet Job Boards

With over 85% of UK homes now having a computer or laptop and then almost 100% of those have fast internet access - this is why more people are turning to the internet to find their first/next job. In years gone by we had to look in the local job centre or scour through a nation spreadsheet newspaper but now we have the luxury of easily accessing online Job Advertising Boards where we can put in our own details to get the best matched jobs!

The hospitality industry is now worth billions of pounds to the UK economy every year and it is still growing as, even with the credit crunch we are eating out more, using hotels more as we travel more frequently and as a result everyone expects only the highest levels of service. So how do we in the industry attract the best chefs, waiters, concierges & front of house staff, bar staff, hotel managers and retail managers, etc? Well we now use internet Job Boards, as they are easy to use, highly cost effective and there are an increasing number of quality candidates who are posting their CVs onto them. This definitely seems like the way forward for increasingly busy HR Managers and company owners looking for the best fresh talent.

So how does it all work? There are two main parts to a job board website - the Candidates (searching for jobs) and the Employers (advertising the jobs).

For the Candidates there is usually no charge for using the service and they will be able to create an online profile with a username & password to enable them to log on to search for the jobs, send their CV/apply for vacancies and then it is just a matter of waiting for a response and hopefully an interview. Often there are other advantages for the job seeker such as being able to:

  • store their CV within the site
  • create and save a covering letter
  • list all the jobs that they are interested in
  • keep a track of the jobs that they have applied for

So, how do you search for a job? The job seekers enter details that will determine the type of adverts that are shown, for example they might be requested to enter a Job Type or Key Word, location and then a Minimum Salary and from these the Job Board website will produce results that match the criteria giving the Candidate a selection of jobs to apply for!

What about the Employer? They will also be asked to create a username and choose a password so they can log onto their part of the site and place their job adverts. Depending on the job site they will either buy jobs slots in Packs or Bundles per month for example to advertise 3, 5, 10, 20 jobs or make an arrangement to advertise as many as they wish and be invoiced monthly. The Employers too have many other benefits when using a job board website such as:

  • being able to store candidates
  • keep a track of how many job adverts they have used that week/month
  • view statistics in order to see how a particular advert is performing
  • see how many potential candidates have looked at an advert
  • view how many candidates have actually applied for any given job
  • change the wording, headline or structure of the advert in order to gain more applications from it

Normally when a job seeker applies for a job and attaches their CV it is generally stored in the employers account online but it is usually also delivered to the employers email address and as this is an instant process it gives the employers real-time benefits to filing their vacancy online. It can also be a far cheaper plus a more cost effective method of advertising than using magazines, journals and newspapers who can sometimes charge thousands of pounds for just one advert.

Is this the future of advertising? It certainly looks that way and we are certain that online job boards will remain the best & most cost effective way of getting lots of applications for your vacancy, giving employers the best and widest choice of candidates to choose from and although some are sure to continue using conventional means of advertising, the smart people will access the internet!
