This means that nurses are required to spend at least 600 hours in local hospitals gaining valuable experience before that are officially licensed and allowed to work.

However, this average salary does vary from state to state. For example, psychiatric nurses tend to be in much greater demand on the West Coast than in the Mid West, and therefore they can demand higher salaries.
