Also, consider what skill sets are the most needed in your firm and other companies. For instance, the MCSE is one of the most popular certifications among employers. Your move has to be smart as there is no point in training in an area that is virtually dead.
Remember certification will get you far, as they are considered by most employers as a valid and credible way of stating your skills, talent and capabilities, as well as your commitment to your career. Moving around careers these days is not considered the taboo it once was, as it is seen as an opportunity to expand your skill set these days, in turn perhaps making you more appropriate for promotion.
