Why Offer Your Employees Extra Perks?

Posted: Jan 10, 2011 |Comments: 0 |

There was a time when the biggest perk of landing any job was the salary or wage you would get for doing it. In fact it used to be the case that it was the only perk you would get!

But nowadays everything is very different. Many businesses take the time to ensure they can offer a more comprehensive offer to their staff. Not only do they carefully consider the best salary they can provide, they also look for other perks they can offer alongside this.

Typical examples are free loans to cover travel costs and health insurance. Some other businesses have more versatile kinds of leave to offer as well. We all know about maternity and paternity leave, but you could also find yourself benefiting from other forms of additional leave as well. In another example some companies offer their employees additional holiday they can ‘buy' from their regular salary if they wish.

Some perks are more familiar to us than others. For instance most of us are familiar with the idea of a company car, although only people in higher job positions tend to be able to benefit from them. In other situations some employees may find themselves working for companies that have gyms and even swimming pools on site that they can use whenever they want to. For some people this can be a good benefit that is well worth having, especially if they usually struggle to find the time to get regular exercise in other ways.

It is definitely in the interest of both parties to have a good employment package that consists of more than just the salary. For an employee, the idea of having access to free health insurance and similar things can mean they don't have to look for it elsewhere. It will save them time as well as money. For the business it could mean their employees stay healthier because they have access to services that are good for their general wellbeing and health.

Companies are definitely trying to provide a well rounded package that is capable of attracting the best employees nowadays. Offering good perks has become something of a competition, as businesses are vying to make sure they have the best offer among all similar businesses. For them it could mean the difference between getting the staff they want and losing them to the opposition.

Things like health insurance and dental insurance for businesses are perhaps most important of all. Many employees will be looking for these items in their employment package, and if they don't find them they could go elsewhere. So it makes perfect sense to ensure the package is as good as it can possibly be.
