There are a lot of things that you have to understand about the shape of your vehicle. One of them is aerodynamics. Aerodynamics of automobiles is basically how air flows around and through your vehicle. Why is aerodynamics so important for you vehicle anyway? First of all, if air flows seamlessly through your vehicle, you will have less drag. Drag is an attribute of a vehicle that makes it slower due to its shape. For example, if you have a car that is shaped like a box, a lot of air will hit it from the front. The more air that hits it from the front, the harder it will be for your vehicle to move faster. If your car is aerodynamic then you will not have a lot of drag. Your vehicle will be able to move faster and it will not slow down due to its shape.

Another important thing about aerodynamics is efficiency. When you are driving your vehicle, you consume gas. What you may not be aware of is the efficiency of your gas consumption. If your car is not aerodynamic then your vehicle will consume more gas. Think about the example earlier. With more air hitting the front of the vehicle as it increases in speed, your car needs more and more power to resist it. When your car needs more power then it will need more gas. This is highly inefficient. If you have two cars side by side, travelling at the same speed, but one is aerodynamic and the other is not, the aerodynamic car will have more mileage than the car without aerodynamics. If you want to save on gas then you have to make sure that you car is aerodynamic. With the rising costs of fuel these days, you have to be smarter with the design of your vehicle.

Aside from gas efficiency and speed, you can also enjoy the design of an aerodynamic car. Although there may be the classic charm of the vintage vehicles, aerodynamic, modern vehicles have a beauty of its own. Look at the latest Ferraris. Check out the Lamborghini Diablo and imagine how air flows from the front to the back. Look at an F1 race car and see how the different angles and contours make this the fastest vehicle on the planet. Appreciating aerodynamics is something that you will truly enjoy. If you are a car enthusiast then you might want to buy an aerodynamic car and display it in your garage. If you want to be more creative then you can add some aero body kits to your car or design your own kit.

If you are planning to design your own car frame then you will need computers and maybe even a small wind tunnel. If your computer can simulate the wind then that would be good. If you have a wind tunnel then you can see the actual flow of air in your design. The more graceful the air flows around your vehicle, the better.
