The figure that is mostly used for all wheels is "4 X 4" and the figure is the number of wheels and the number of powered wheels. When you have a figure 4 X 2, it means the power is transmitted only to two tyres of the vehicle but the 4X 4 technology transmits power to all the four Audi wheels. Since the new Audi wheels technology improves grip on road even on rough bumpy roads, the car is mostly seen in rallies and in car racing. The 4 X 4 technology is mostly found in trucks and heavy vehicles. Even a manual switch is provided by many companies to the drivers to switch options from 4 X 4 to 4 X 2, in case of difficult weather conditions.

The All-wheel drive technology helps the drivers to drive on dry pavement as it employs the centre differential technology to allow the wheels to rotate at different speeds. Many driving issues like driveline binding and hopping can be reduced by AWD technology. The technology is present in only a few models of motor companies such as Audi, Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Volkswagen.
