DETROIT, M.I. – Charity Preview guests enjoyed each other's company as almost 10,500 attendees visited the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS). Every year at the NAIAS there is a one night, black-tie event to raise money for local children's charities. The goal this year was to attract 10,000 guests to the Charity Preview. This number was completely surpassed as almost 10,500 visitors came dressed for the occasion, helping to raise $2.6 million for the charities.

Charities that will receive proceeds from the Charity Preview funds include:

  • Boys & Girls Club of Southeastern Michigan
  • Boys Hope Girls Hope of Detroit
  • The Children's Center
  • Judson Center
  • The Detroit Institute for Children
  • Think Detroit PAL
  • March of Dimes
  • The Children's Hospital of Michigan Foundation
  • DADA Charitable Foundation Fund, a fund of the Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan.

The Charity Preview began in 1972 and, since that year, has raised almost $82 million for children's charities all over the Detroit MI Metro area. The funds are directed toward medical treatment, clothing and support services for local children in need.

"Our passion as the Motor City transcends a love of cars," said NAIAS Chairman Barron Meade in a press release. "The automotive community and the city band together each year during the NAIAS Charity Preview for the greater good of our future and that is our children. Thousands of children benefit from this event as a result of that sense of community."

Some of this year's sponsors are RBS/Charter One: Presenting Sponsor; marking its fourth year of support; Delta Air Lines, Comcast and MGM Grand Detroit: Sponsors of the VIP Ribbon Cutting Party; and Art Van Furniture: Special Additional Support.

Following the Charity Event, the Public Show began. The turnout was also more than expected with over 185,000 visitors in the first two days.

The NAIAS has always been a much anticipated event for automakers, fans, and guests every year. This year has seen bigger crowds than the past two years, and the event seems to be still growing.
