Corvette Performance

So you want a corvette. Did you know that the original corvettes were battle warships? So are you ready to go to battle? If not you don't need to read any further. It all started in 1951 when Harley Earl convinced GM that they needed to manufacture a two seated sports car. Later that year the project was code named "Opel". In 1953 the corvette was unveiled, and has been going strong ever since. The Chevrolet Corvette has been one of the top performance sports cars in the last 5 decades. With over 400 horses in the most basic package you will definitely have a good time driving this car. What we really want to talk about is the options of taking that 400 hp (which is already a lot of power), over the top.

There is a fine line between Mustang lovers and Corvette lovers and the truth is that the Corvette packs a more powerful punch from the beginning. Sorry mustang fans. The corvette is definitely an eye opener with a standard 6.2L LS3 aluminum block engine in the coupe that starts you with 430 horses. There is also a new dual-mode exhaust system that provides an extra six bringing you up to 436 hp. You may ask yourself what on earth would I do with more hp? Isn't that enough? Apparently someone didn't think there was such thing as too much power. Once you get bored with your lame 436 hp there is plenty you can add to excel on the road. Like you weren't already the fastest.

Cold are intakes are a quick, fairly inexpensive and an easy way to increase your power. In just about 30 minutes you could add up to 15 more hp. By pushing cold air through the engine you increase the power. The colder the air the more power increase you will have. Picking the right intake can be tricky as well. Some may say that you don't want to spend too much on a cold air intake, but a general rule when buying almost anything is, you get what you pay for. Cold air intakes also could increase your gas mileage by as many as two miles to the gallon. Gas prices are jumping to about $4.50 in most areas so why not take advantage of a couple miles more per gallon.

Chips and tuners are the second way you could increase your power. They are just about equally as easy if not easier to install versus the cold air intakes, and take about 20 minutes less to install. In less than 10 minutes you could have 10 more horses under your hood. Not too bad if you ask me. Increasing the engine efficiency also increases your gas mileage and your power. These are just two of the many ways to invest into your corvette. If power isn't all you want there are unlimited options to change the look of any corvette. Why settle for something that is just the ordinary?

There’s also another fancy little feature of the diablosport predator on the 2010 Camaros with the L99 automatic. When you put the car in cruise control, it shuts down four of the cylinders to get better gas mileage. The only problem with that is the car doesn’t sound the same anymore. With the diablo, you can disable that feature, making it run on all 8 cylinders all the time.
