Tata Indica was introduced in 1998 as a passenger hatchback model by Tata Motors and still continues to be a success. Till August 2008, Tata Motors have rolled out more that 910, 000 units, between the years 2006 and 2007 the sales reached the peak. Right from 2004, Tata cars were exported to Africa and Europe and the first modern car designed by Indian company confirming 115,000 bookings during the launch. Within two years of its début the car has became the number one car of its segment. Currently known as Tata Indica V2, which is refreshed version with the removal of short comings of the earlier model. The car is available with four variants in India that has only diesel engine option and manual transmission.
Engine & Specifications:-
Tata Indica old version comes with 1396 cc diesel engine that has a capacity to deliver maximum poser of 54.2 hp at 5000rpm and maximum torque of 85.0 Nm at 2500 rpm. The new Indica V2 is equipped with 1405 cc engine with four cylinders, which can deliver maximum power of 71 PS at 4500 rpm and the maximum torque of 135 Nm at 2500 rpm. The upgraded engine of new version gives much better performance.
Performance:-
Tata Indica gives diligent performance within the city as it can deliver 1500 rpm even in traffic without any fuss. Downshifts are awesome in upgraded version of and the gear shift is also smooth. One can enjoy by attempting sudden overtaking with zest, the steering wheel is well supported on low speed but it has slight remarks in high speeds. Alloy wheels are missing even in new version. Coming to specifications Indica V2 is a spacious hatchback car measuring 3675 mm in length, 1665 mm in width and 1458 mm in height, with 2400 mm wheelbase and minimum turning radius of 4.9 meters. Chevrolet Beat, Hyundai Santro and Maruti Alto are the major competitors and its prices range between 3.5 lacs and 4.5 lacs.
Exterior, Interior & Safety:-
The exterior is equipped with bison tail lamps and tea-dropped headlamps, which give more attraction to the car. Apart from that, the powerful fog lamps, bonnet and grille with chrome lining, integrated LED stop lamp in rear spoiler are quite striking. Coming to interior, V2 is specially known for space. In India, the Indica was the first compact car that came with power windows and AC as these features were seen in luxurious imported vehicles in earlier days. The rear seats are completely foldable that can provide ample of space for luggage. As safety concerns, the car is equipped with door open warning, driver-passenger seat belt warning, audio warning, child safety locks, rigid monochrome frame and side-impact beams.
